I have been enamored of sheep since I was very, very young. It came as a surprise to no one that I grew up to have sheep, and spin wool, and do stuff with the yarn. I generally like the spinning more than the "stuff", but recently a friend commissioned a set of scarves, so I have been weaving on my little loom. I forgot how much I love the weaving. Like everything else about wool for me, it is somehow like magic even while I am doing it. I mean, it is basically string, a
In a log home, maximizing space is a constant challenge. We have a little closet downstairs used for coats, the vacuum cleaner, light bulbs, etc etc. And it's a battle every time we need to get something out. This is really our overflow coat area, the active in-use coats live on hooks near the door. In the Carolinas, the temperature can range from 20 to 70 in a single day, so we keep quite an assortment ready. So this weekend, I did a little makeover which has left me ve
Sure, I cook a lot, because I am all about the foods. But sometimes, I like to do other stuff. If you have come within a mile of me, you know I am having knee surgery. So, I got a recliner, which is great. I also know I will want to be in my bed a lot (well, that is true even without surgery, but I digress). I decided I need a more comfortable way to sit up in my little bed. Sure, I could have purchased those special pillows, but noooooooooooooo.....I decided to make a p
Once a month a group of us spinning types get together to talk about sheep, wool, yarn, spinning, and pretty much every other topic that comes up! It is one of the highlights of my month. This month, I got to host, and our topic was dying wool. One of our number is pretty much a professional, her hand-dyed yarns are just breathtaking -if you get a moment, check out Cranberry Creek Fiber. I have always used a crock pot for my dying, so I jumped at the chance to see how the
Such a busy time of year, I keep forgetting to post!! This is the latest activity - a few of my spinning buddies and I thought this would be a great way to get some exposure for our hand spun and hand dyed yarns. Super excited!!! #FarmersMarket #Crafting
By and large, I think my husband preferred the pasta phase. I have the attention span of a gnat. Really. And I wanted to do some lettering which I could not manage free hand. So I got some stencils. And now, I am literally wandering around the house stenciling things. The dogs are afraid to stay still.... We have 30 year old cedar posts on my property, so beautiful. And even after all this time, they smell so amazing when they are cut. I have a lot of them in use as fences, but I also have loads them in neat, tidy stacks. And lately, I have started making things with them. Business card holders, pencil holders, and sometimes, these little signs. Mostly, I just love running my hands over this wood and admiring it. #Crafting #FarmersMarket
I had an order for a gift basket, and noticed the delivery address was different than the purchasing address. So I sent them a note to ask if this was a gift, and did they want the receipt included. It was a gift, and they asked if I could write a note to go with it (and no receipt). I have to admit, I was just tickled to do it and am still grinning hours later. What am I NOT grinning about? I was getting dressed, and you know how you lift up one leg at a time to put yo
One of the best things about my house, is the large, covered porch. I can leave things outside, and know that they will not get wet even in heavy rain.
This morning, I slipped into my boots, only to find one of them filled with about an inch of icey water - oh such an unpleasant surprise. Apparently our porch roof is leaking and rain had filled my boots.
Well, this is not an acceptable state of affairs, so today after work, I zipped out to the scrap wood pile, selecte
Sometimes I wake up in the morning with so many ideas running through my head, I can't decide what I want to do first. Yesterday was about doing things that had to be done. Today is about doing things I want to do - but how to decide? I want to make some soap I want to make some new dog toys I want to start some new sets of dryer balls I want to plant my new elderberry bushes I want to mulch my garden I want to groom the horses and dogs (who are all blowing their winter coa
