One of the best things about being a grown-up is being able to whip together a wonderful dinner, starting from nothing.
Not sure what happened to our day today, but we looked at each other at 5:30 and realized we were hungry, but had made no plans for dinner. Now, we live in the sticks, and while we could get in the car and drive a ways to buy something fast food, I really hate to do that.
So, into the kitchen we ventured!! Half an hour later we had made waffles from scratch, delicious sausage patties from our freezer (by way of our happy pig farmer), and another one of the brilliant things to come out of the south: Fried Apples!!
Fried Apples
1/2 stick butter
4 c sliced apples
1/2 c brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Melt butter in a skillet.
Add the apples and saute for a few minutes until the apples start to soften
Stir in the sugar and cinnamon.
Cook over medium heat until liquid has cooked down and apples are coated in a thick, sugary syrup!!
