Most of my friends blanket their horses in the winter. I have always had hearty breeds (Norwegian Fjords) and never felt the need. But when our little Beauty joined us this year, I thought maybe I should. I watched her winter coat come in just as thick and heavy as the Fjords, but I still worried. Having laughed at her over the last week, rolling in the snow and opting to lay down and nap in the snow rather than a dry, warm run-in...well...it looks like I am not gonna need those blankets after all. Here she is, having a little nap. She does wear boots - I think she foundered at some point in the past, and the frozen ground makes her little feet sore. She is much happier in the boots, and a happy pony makes for a happy me!!
